Brief notes on what I'm going to include in my Task 1 video
script
introduction
Hey guys, my names Helena, and in this topic I'm going to be talking about feminism.
what is feminism?
The advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.
3 top feminist movies
The 3 top feminist movies are; Ghostbusters, Mamma mia and A girl walks home at night. I personally like the movie Ghostbusters as it the main characters are all independent strong woman that are trying to catch ghosts.
Why Mamma Mia is a feminist movie
1. IT HAS STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN
Donna is a strong, independent woman that works hard as a business owner, while being a strong independent woman. She occasionally dreams about being financially stable and marrying a wealthy man.
In addition, Sophie is a fierce girl that is open to the world and is willing to do new things and challenges.
On the other hand, Rosie is a very sweet, loving and caring woman, that cares more about her looks than her friends also loves being single.
2. ANIT-WOMAN SHAMING
Previously, Donna has been with a lot of men, but regrets none of them. Fortunately, her friends and family support her for this and remind her that she is an amazing woman, no matter how many men she has been with. Although usually a woman in movies with this sort of situation are commonly frowned upon.
3. FEMINIST DREAM
Donna is a woman that can be looked to as she has gone through ‘thick to thin’, by being kicked out of her family while she was pregnant, fortunately she has brought up an amazing daughter and has had successful traits among herself, friends and daughter.
4. SINGLE WOMAN
Rosie is a woman that loves to be single also seems very successful, on the other hand Donna struggles with the modern feminine fights. The song “Money Money Money’ is a good wake up call for feminists as it is very powerful and upbringing.
5. MAN/YOUNGER WOMAN DYNAMIC
Usually you see the old man chasing the younger woman, but instead, this movie shows a young man chasing after an older woman. Although Tanya does mention that the man is too young for her.
6. SOPHIE HAS HER OWN CHOICE
A big part of feminism is decision making. A woman is allowed to make choices between being single, marrying the guy she likes or just having a lot of men. In one scene Sophie is in a situation where she is not sure whether she wants to get married.
7. THE CHALLENGES FOR "TRADITIONAL FAMILY"
In this movie, it shows a different variety of families for example, there’s, Donna and Sophie that have a mother and daughter bond together. Sky reminds Sophie that it’s okay to not have the perfect family, but it’s important to remember that everyone around her loves her the way she is. Another good example would be when Sophie’s mother walks down the aisle, instead of the father.
8. GIRL POWER
This movie is an amazing example of girl power as it shows a powerful bond between the mother and daughter and their loving female friends that are always there for each other.
